Current Bitcoin Price + Current Litecoin Price + Giveaway

With the rise of BitcoinΒ and Litecoin, I have created 2 websites to help track the up to the second prices. Not sure what bitcoin is? CheckoutΒ We Use Coins

I will be opening up an API for these soon, to give raw access to these stats. Useful for importing into a Google spreadsheet, or creating your own applications.

To help spread these sites, I’ll run a little contest…

(All dollar amounts are based off the current price of $125 usd / BTC)

I will pay you:

1. 0.005 ($0.62) BTC just for commenting here and leaving your address.

2. 0.01 ($1.25) BTC if you share one of the links on Twitter and have more than 100 followers. (0.005 BTC if you have less). I will pay this out twice, so you can tweet each link. Then either reply here with the link to your twitter account, or @ message me: @BeyondemInc

3. 0.02 ($2.50) BTC if you comment here with suggested features for the sites, or for Payout is only valid if its something I actually like. (To prevent mindless, obvious submissions)

Only one submission of each entry is allowed please!

I will be pooling together the payouts to reduce the transaction fees and size, so dont expect to receive it immediatly!

Contest is complete. Thanks everyone!

  • Nice work! Thank you for your efforts.

  • Make sure it is aesthetically pleasing. It’s a thing that actually matters. Having a bland website is a turn off.

    • That’s weird, were you trying to @ message me, or direct message? Either way, 0.01 BTC on its way to you once I can batch together a few. (0.005 for the comment + 0.005 for tweeting with less than 100 followers)
      Thanks again!

  • Feature suggestion:

    Night theme (black)
    Price in EUR
    Simple JSON API
    Show Mtgox lag
    Last price update time
Price in the favicon (javascript + some php)

    RMEApril 21, 2013
    • JSON api was planned, as for the night theme and other ideas, maybe I’ll incorporate a few of those πŸ™‚

Thanks, you have a total of 0.045 coming to you πŸ™‚

(0.005 for simply posting here. 0.01 for each tweet, then 0.02 for the ideas)

      Thanks again!

      BrandonApril 21, 2013
  • I tweeted both your websites to my 6,300 followers.

I also have 20,000 on instagram and tech savvy people are following me with interests in BTC. I can give you a shout out there if you’d like.

You should add a live viewers counter to your websites. Seems like a fun little thing.

    BguyApril 21, 2013
    • Thats 0.005 for commenting, 0.01 / tweet. Since you have so many followers I’ll add an additional 0.01 on top of that.

As for the live counter, that already exists at the bottom of each of those pages:)

Currently compiling a list of all payouts I need to do. All will be sent at once to reduce transaction fees! Thanks again everybody

      BrandonApril 21, 2013
  • Nice, and handy.

You might consider looking at for a few other things you could add, although these are far less important in general than the price.

Other currency values might be nice to look at in the future, as well. One thing I’d be particularly interested in is the going BTC/LTC exchange rate.

Thanks for the contribution to the community!

    MApril 21, 2013
    • Yup, Ive seen that site. It’s pretty awesome πŸ™‚

The going BTC/LTC exchange rate is already planned to be added in once Gox (if it ever does…) supports LTC.

  • Hi, cool site!
Any plans on implementing customizable graphs, etc…?

    DamiApril 21, 2013
    • Didnt have plans for that, as I wanted this to be a simple display, not to mention the extreme lack of time.

Thanks for taking time to comment πŸ™‚

      BrandonApril 21, 2013
  • I’d like to see a more understandable version of bitcoinity. There’s so much information in there, but it’s somewhat indecipherable for most people.

Personally, I’d also like to see an average price across all the major exchanges and all the major currencies. Like a price of prices. I’m in Europe, so I’d like to understand, at a glance, whether I’m better going USD -> BTC or EUR -> BTC or vice versa at any given time.

And what I’d really like would be similar to the chart view you can get through Google Finance. So the price of BTC over time, but matched up against major events, news stories and anything else that’s relevant. So I could look at last week and see that the price drop followed a major DDOS at MTGOX and other exchanges. That would be challenging, but you could become the source fo record if implemented correctly.

    SiApril 21, 2013
    • The average price of everything seems like a great idea. As for the Google Finance portfolio, I love that. Thats a great idea! Well done.
Added your address to my list of next payouts. Expect 0.045 to come πŸ™‚

  • Pretty awesome, love the real time ticker when the browser is minimized.

Maybe put a up triangle or down triangle character into the header, so we can see the trend when the browser is minimized?

  • Hello and good luck with your endeavors!

    some suggestions and/or ideas:

-How about including a section of local buyers and sellers and including their rates and email?
-Including LOCAL bitcoin prices and listings, possibly getting it from craigslist postings

-A LOCAL chatroom or discussion boards
-A LOCALLY focused forum where people can connect with others within their community to spread awareness and help bitcoin to grow and penetrate the local community.

  • I think it would be cool if you get set a target price and if the current price reaches that, a sound goes off. Basically an alert system for people who are waiting for a specific price point to either buy or sell. Maybe have a number of different sounds as well, with an option to loop the alert for those who aren’t always at their computer. This will also help those who don’t always have their browser open but still want to keep up to date with the price fluctuation.

And of course, it’d be nice to include other currencies such as the euro and yen.

Aesthetically, I like the simple design you have, but I feel the black stats button at the bottom clashes with the light colored layout. The placing is somewhat awkward as well, but that might just be my OCD acting up haha. Maybe align it to the center or the corner?

    luxApril 22, 2013
    • The idea of sounds is good, and very simple to implement. I’ll check into that, thanks!
You’re right, I should look into other colours for the online tracker.

0.025 btc on its way to you in the next batch!

      BrandonApril 22, 2013
  • Simple, does exactly what it’s suppose to do. A perfect engineering feat!

    ToolOfUncleSamApril 22, 2013
  • Perhaps:

    – add Facebook & Google+ sharing links to help spread the word, and
    – RSS feed for those using readers…

This might be cumbersome (would require accounts), but SMS alerts for buy & sell values would be handy…

    RonApril 22, 2013
    • Seems like a simple thing to add, will do!

+ 0.025 btc on its way in the next payout batch. (Within the next 12 hours)

      BrandonApril 22, 2013
  • I would suggest implementing two things:

    1) Additional user configurable readouts to display the price of Bitcoin against other currencies and commodities.

    2) Allow users to enter a date into a text-box, and then display the percentage change in value of Bitcoin from that date to the present (updating live, of course).

When implemented together, these features should allow a user to leave the window open on a dedicated monitor, and take stock of the current situation at a glance, increasing the utility of your product manyfold. You might want to charge for them separately.

    • Sounds good,

+0.025 on its way to you in the next batch! πŸ™‚

      BrandonApril 23, 2013
  • Note: this is similar to what Ducksboard is doing, but for Bitcoin. Considering so much of trade volume at this point is generated by speculators, it seems like a dashboard catering to them (i.e. a small modification of what you have currently, to make it single page and customizable) would be quite profitable if charged for

    SohamApril 22, 2013
  • Thank you, Sir! πŸ™‚

    RonApril 23, 2013
  • I’m using Chrome on Mac and your footer seems too far down by ~10px so the scrollbar shows up.
Also it shows the bottom line isn’t really level. I think especially the counter sticks out awkwardly.

I’ve been thinking about how to improve the reading of the high / low values. They are readable, but if you want to compare them (to get the range) maybe something like this would be better:
    (Low) $123.51 – $137.6886 (High)

    Or a different way:
    Low: $123.51
    High: $137.6886

Actually, since most visitors will probably be regulars or familiar with the terms, you could give “Low” and “High” a grey color to further emphasize the values. (I’d like to get rid of the colons too.)

    berndApril 23, 2013
    • Thank you for letting me know. And that sounds good!

For taking the time and providing a screenshot and all, you’ll be getting 0.06 instead of 0.025 πŸ™‚

  • I like the idea which CryptoTrack is aiming you do a good job but how about a more intuitive way to get in touch with new user ? more picture … and please rethink the layout colors ?

    Thank you

  • Maybe one small thing would be to space out the feed at the side of the page as my first impression was that it was a small preview of a story not the title of many different stories! Hope that helps.
